GDC I Conference 2023: Sharing Dreams and Building Community

In June 2023, the Global (De)Centre hosted its first conference, a two-day virtual gathering designed to inspire dialogue, spark collaborations, and collectively envision the future of the GDC.

The conference, held on June 5-6, brought together participants from diverse backgrounds to connect and explore how their work aligns with the mission of the GDC. Over two dynamic sessions, attendees exchanged ideas, shared aspirations, and laid the groundwork for future collaborations.

Day 1 Highlights: Lightning Rounds and Networking
The first day featured “Lightning-Round” presentations, where participants introduced themselves, shared their work related to the GDC’s themes, and discussed the kinds of networks and collaborations they sought. This format fostered engaging discussions and encouraged both presenters and attendees to consider how their work intersects and supports shared goals.

Day 2 Highlights: Dreams, Commitments, and Connections
The second day invited attendees to reflect on three guiding questions:

1. What do we want or dream of for the GDC?
2.What are we interested in working on?
3. What can we commit to?

These conversations emphasized the importance of bold dreaming, while grounding ambitions in tangible actions and commitments.

The GDC Conference 2023 was a celebration of diversity, creativity, and collective visioning. The insights and connections formed during the event will continue to inspire and inform our work as we prepare for the upcoming in-person gathering in March 2025.
