The necessity of de-centering the obvious to include the other

By Halleh Ghorashi, 2019: This essay is based on decades of research I conducted on the conditions of refugees in the Netherlands, yet I believe that it can provide insights that go beyond the limits of the Dutch context.In this piece, I elaborate on the importance of distinguishing two phases in the lives of refugees and show how each phase has its own challenges requiring particular forms of assistance and sensitivity.
