Nick Dreher is a PhD student in Policy Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in Canada. He is also a researcher with CERC Migration and Integration and the Urban Sanctuary, Migrant Solidarity, and Hospitality in Global Perspective partnership. His research explores the relationships and power dynamics between international organizations and local actors in the development and implementation of policies to support the social inclusion, belonging, and agency of precarious migrants and refugees in cities. His research interests also touch on transnational and multi-level governance, digital nomadism, qualitative methodologies and storytelling, and the role of arts and culture in intercultural community spaces and policymaking.
Prior to his PhD, he worked in non-profit and higher education settings in a variety of roles—program coordination, teaching and advocacy, at community organizations supporting migrants and refugees in South Africa, Uganda and several cities in the United States. Through his professional and academic work, he aspires to centre the values of intercultural experiences, dialogue, and social justice in the work and research he conducts.
Nick has been a member of GDC since 2022. He is a member of the Migration Study Group.
