Her research focuses on environmental, gender, care, health, and  migration issues and responses in contaminated, marginalized and degraded contexts, especially in Latin America. She explores these issues from a methodological perspective that combines participatory action research (PAR), inspired by Fals Borda, with feminist and intersectional approaches. She co-coordinates the Epistemology and Pedagogy Working Group within the Global (De)Centre Network. Several of her publications have appeared in peer-reviewed journals, books, and web portals, among other dissemination channels. Outside of academia, Belen has collaborated on community-based projects and the development of artistic productions, such as podcasts, festivals, museum exhibitions, workshops, fanzines, and chronicle books, among other initiatives, which extend her work on transformative practices rooted in collaboration with social organizations and artistic collectives to have a greater community impact.
